Beaver Creek Activities and Clubs

Clubs and after school, extra curricular options are a great way for students to stay active and engaged in the learning environment, and to pursue interests outside of the classroom.

Band

Club Description: The elementary band program for grades 4 and 5 is designed to help students build a foundation of musical skills while playing a band instrument. Emphasis is placed on learning to read and understand written music notation including letter names, note types and rest values. Students participate in lessons and attend rehearsals before school.

Who is eligible: 4th and 5th grade students
Advisor: Mrs. Patterson

Chess Club

Club Description: Chess Club is designed to give 5th grade students an opportunity to learn the game of chess, improve their chess skills, and to enjoy challenging their peers, while experiencing healthy competition and team spirit. Chess is used to develop critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making. This club meets before school.

Who is eligible: 5th grade students
Advisor: Mr. Bodle

Chorus

Club Description: Students in grades 4 and 5 will begin to develop the vocal instrument and experience unison and part singing as a group. They will use a varied repertoire of music, to learn more about reading music and performing. No limit to participation. This ensemble rehearses before school.

Cultural Connections Club

Early Success Reading Club

Club Description: 1st and 2nd grade students that will benefit from extra help in reading will have the opportunity to participate in this extended-day literacy club. Multiple criteria for student identification include screening tools, standardized test results and teacher recommendation. Sessions will take place before and after school.

Who is eligible: 1st and 2nd grade students
Advisor: Mrs. Kinsey, Miss Fratzola, and Mrs. Huver

Girls Growing Grit

Club Description: 4th and 5th grade girls will participate in activities that focus on wellness, mentoring, persistence and self-esteem. Each week, we will hear about women who demonstrated GRIT and achieved their goals and how women today are breaking barriers. This club meets after school in the spring.

Orchestra

Club Description: Students learn to play a string instrument and develop their musical skills. Students in grades 4 and 5 play string instruments in the orchestra and perform in concerts. Students participate in lessons and attend rehearsals before school. Third grade string students have 2 or 3 early morning rehearsals in May followed by a separate concert in late May or June.

Page Turners

Club Description: Students in grades 3-5 that would benefit from additional, targeted assistance will be invited to join. Page Turners aims to improve reading proficiency, comprehension and enjoyment
to help students overcome reading challenges and strengthen literacy skills. This club meets after school.
Who is eligible: 3rd and 4th Grade Students

Reading Olympics

Club Description: Any student in grades 4 and 5 may join this club and they will be exposed to many pieces of quality literature. Students will then be selected to participate in the final competition
team of 12 based on the number of books read and the familiarity of the content of those books. This club meets after school in the spring.

Who is eligible: 4th and 5th grade students

Safety Patrol

Club Description: 5th grade students learn leadership skills and responsibility while helping with school activities and assisting our youngest learners. All students in grade 5 are invited to participate,
however, only those students in good standing with academic work and represent good citizenship are eligible.
Who is eligible: 5th grade students
Advisor: Mrs. Gutowski

Track Club

Fee Structure

Students involved in a program that uses transportation or teacher services beyond the contractual day will be assessed a participation fee. Academic clubs, such as Reading Olympics, tied to outside competitions will continue to be funded by the district. Science Fair as well as tutorial clubs, Early Success will also not require a fee.

Students pay a $25 fee online to participate in band, chorus and orchestra. Another $25 fee is assessed to participate in other clubs and intramurals. The maximum fee per elementary child is $50 if your child participates in band, chorus or orchestra; otherwise the cap is $25. The maximum fee assessed per family K-12 is $250. Students enrolled in the free/reduced lunch plan will be eligible to have their fees waived.
